Intro

This blog is supposed to be, as much as I can, my daily journey through life as a Christian. I hope it to be my thoughts and feelings on life but be as grounded in the Christian message as it can. My intention is not to create a daily readings or bible study guide but to look at my life in terms of a Christian trying to find and follow God's mission using his Life User's Manuel AKA the Bible.

Matthew 10 19-20

And don't you worry about what you'll say or how you'll say it. The right words will be there; the Spirit of your Father will supply the words. - Matthew 10 19-20

Worthy of Your calling

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
Because we know that this extraordinary day is just ahead, we pray for you all the time-pray that our God will make you fit for what he's called you to be, pray that he'll fill your good ideas and acts of faith with his own energy so that it all amounts to something. If your life honors the name of Jesus, he will honor you. Grace is behind and through all of this, our God giving himself freely, the Master, Jesus Christ, giving himself freely.

A while ago I was at a service where this Bible verse was the focus of the sermon. It was during a time when I was on the cusp of realising and admitting what God wants me to do. During this period every service I attended seem to be almost written for me personally. Pretty much every time I walked into a Church or attended a religious event it seemed as though God was sending me a clear message.

God has a plan and a calling for each of us, and for everyone that calling is going to be different. It is only through following His plans that we will ever truly be happy. We can seem happy and present a happy face to the world, we can even think and believe that we are happy doing our own thing. But in following God's will in our lives there will be a peace and happiness that we will not find anywhere else.

I am ready to follow this plan in my life and I am looking forward to the path that lies ahead of me. I know this will not always be easy but it will always be with Him by my side. I wrote a blog not long ago about a song that I love called moving forward and the words sum up a lot in my life as it is currently.

I stand before, a road that will lead,
Into the unknown. At least unknown to me.
I want to go, but I'm paralysed with fear.
Fear of a choise, where the outcome isn't clear.

No, but still I go.

And I take, the first step of a million more.
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before.
But at least I'm moving forward.

I am standing at the beginning of a new road, I have no idea where the end is but I know what I must do to start walking it. I am frightened of taking this path because it will be the first time that I am out of control in my life and I don't know where I will end up. But I am taking the first step and there are going to be many many more to come in the future. But at least I'm moving forward.

We are all worthy of the calling God has for us, He makes us worthy of it. We need to learn to be obedient and loving, once we start trying to live our lives as God would want us to there is no danger of being unworthy. Don;t fear being what God wants you to be, because He will always be there and He will never let you down.

Moving forward

At least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward...

I stand before, a road that will lead,
Into the unknown. At least unknown to me.
I want to go, but I'm paralysed with fear.
Fear of a choise, where the outcome isn't clear.

Nooo, but still I gooo.

And I take, the first step of a million more.
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before.
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward...

I wonder if, the journey will be,
Short as I hope, or much longer than it seems.
But either way, I've made up my mind.
I'm through feeling scared, I'm leaving that behind.

Sooo, Now it's time to gooo.

And I take, the first step of a million more.
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before.
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward...

And in while I''l be singing,

Na, nana nana

And I take, the first step of a million more.
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before.
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.

And I take, the first step of a million more!
And I'll make mistakes I've never made before!
But at least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward.
At least I'm moving forward, at least I'm moving forward!

Moving, forward.
Moving, forward.
Moving, forward.
Moving, forward...

Na, nana nana

Have you ever listened to a song so many times that you don't really listen to it anymore? I must have so many tracks that are like this, as someone who loves music as much as me and listens to it so much it becomes inevitable. I live my whole life to a soundtrack, I am never without musics in anything I do, it says something about me that the biggest problem I have this weekend is that the fuse on my car radio has blown and I currently have to drive in silence.

Anyway I was listening to my ipod in my car driving between work and this track came on and while sat at some traffic lights I actually listened to the lyrics of the song. I know the lyrics to almost every single one of the many thousands of tracks I have on my ipod and PC but while singing along I actually paid attention to what the lyrics actually said. I don't know if it is intentional on the part of the songwriters for it to be so easily applied to a Christian view but reading through these lyrics it could easily be about someone about to start a Christian journey.

For me this song pretty much sums up where i am in my life right now. About to step out onto a new path that will take me into the unknown, a path that I do not know how long I will travel on. And although I fear making the choice to walk this path because I do not know what it will hold for me. Although I am scared by God's help I am leaving all that behind me and at least I'm moving forward.

The Reason

I'm not a perfect person
There's many things I wish I didn't do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
And the reason is you
(The Reason - Hoobastank)

This is the first verse and chorus from one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands. The lyrics are not and as far as I know the band is not Christian. Yet these words perfectly sum up my feelings about my past. Until very recently I was of the opinion that the thing in my past were part of who I am, that in order to be the person I am today I had to go through these experiences. I thought that to be ashamed of my past or to apologise for it would mean that I was ashamed and apologising for who I had become.

The reality is though that who I am, the person I have become is down to the fact that God is working in my life now. Before, all the things that I had done were of the world and the enemy. If I want to make progress in my journey then I must admit my failings and confront what they mean. I must admit how wrong and unchristian they were. More than anything I must apologise to the one person I hurt most during all of this, the one person who was there through it all, watching me with tears in His eyes.

Ignoring the past is not an option and forgetting it would open the door to sin. I must acknowledge that these memories are part of who I am and part of the journey I have been on. The lessons I have learned are valuable and the end result in finding God is to be thanked. However I must recognise the sin of my past life and know that any good that came from it was purely from God. If I am wanting to live a God filled and God lead life then I cannot be holding on to things in the past that I know to be sinful and wrong. To follow the path that God has set before me I must be aware but not attached to my personal history. One Bible verse that fills me with hope is the following;

Mark 3:28
"Listen to this carefully. I'm warning you. There's nothing done or said that can't be forgiven."
